This will be a rich meeting as we take a good look at these issues and begin discussions around solutions! While we (Fayette County) are rich in resources are there services/programs still lacking or are they not as accessible as they need to be? Those are things we will be looking at Monday, September 28th. Please plan to attend and be a part of this strategic process that will help to keep our kids healthy and safe, our youth to stay in school, graduate and have good opportunities for their future. AVPRIDE is working with young people 16 years to 24 years that are low income and have a barrier to education, including basic skills deficient, drop out, homeless, pregnant or parenting, incarceration. They provide –free of charge- a program that includes occupational skills training, tutoring and help with GED, internships-paid and unpaid, and work to assist with employment in their field of interest. Join us Monday, May 18th to learn more about how to refer your clients that are 16-24 years, not in school and not employed. One tidbit of "Did You Know": We each play a part in promoting the safety and well-being of children and families in our communities, one of the best strategies for preventing child abuse and neglect. To do this, we need to understand the protective factors that support safety and well-being in families and help parents - who might otherwise be at risk of abusing or neglecting their children - find resources, supports and coping strategies that allow them to parent effectively and protect their children, even under stress. The following six protective factors have been linked to a lower incidence of child abuse and neglect:

Monday, October 27th Grace Evangelical Church 164 Flat Creek Trl 11:30am Lunch and Networking/ Program begins at Noon Children’s Village at Christian City will share about their new program-Safe Place The National Safe Place program provides access to quick and safe support for runaway and homeless youth in crisis. Come join Phil Kouns – COO of The Children’s Village at Christian City, and Sarah Booth – Safe Place Coordinator for The Children’s Village, as they share information about this important program. As a licensed Safe Place agency, The Children’s Village supports a network of Safe Place sites that can play a valuable role in ongoing community efforts to rescue children before they become trapped in a cycle of violence and abuse. September is National Preparedness Month GEMA’s (Georgia Emergency Management Agency) Ready Georgia campaign (www.ready.ga.gov) is focusing during National Preparedness Month on important on steps that individuals, families, businesses and communities should take to prepare for any emergency, Our guest speaker, Lisa Janak Newnan, Public Affairs Officer from GEMA will be sharing important information for the families we serve and our own for safety preparedness. Community Annual Plan FY2015 Coordinated Resource Referrals Increase awareness and access to resources ensure that all families in Fayette County will have access to necessary resources that will equip them and strengthen their ability to make good choices for their family. Reduce Underage Drinking Reduce the early onset of alcohol use among 9-20 year olds- Alcohol Prevention Project ENCORE Senior Leadership Improve health and well-being of senior adults through giving them relevant opportunities for engagement in the community. Youth Workforce Development Increase access to programs and services to help youth with economic & other barriers, to succeed in school and in life. Prevent Child Abuse Education Reduce the occurrence of child sexual abuse through a coordinated effort to bring Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children sexual abuse prevention training to leading institutions. Anti-Bullying Campaign Bring attention to the issue of bullying in our youth serving organizations, including school settings, through a best practice anti-bullying campaign. Out of School Enrichment Assist in ensuring that youth (elementary through high school) have access to out of school enrichment program opportunities. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month- FACTOR Collaborative Meeting will highlight agencies and organizations that are front line in protecting children.
