Next Collaborative Meeting: March 24, 2014/Program-Fayette Visioning Initiative-Competitive Assessment Report: Virginia Gibbs- Fayette Chamber of Commerce. This report is a compilation of over 1400 residents’ input that gave the answer to “Where are we now”. In the months to come we, as a community, have the opportunity to be a part of answering the next questions-“Where do we want to be” & “How do we get there”. Lunch and networking begin at 11:30am and the program starts at noon. There is a $2 lunch/meeting expense fee for non-members.

FACTOR Collaborative General Meeting 164 Flat Creek Trail Fayetteville 11:30AM- Lunch & Networking/ Meeting starts at Noon Program- Carter and Olivia Ries from OMG/One More Generation The meeting is open to all. There is a $2 requested donation for meeting expenses for all non-members. Please RSVP to Becky Smith by Friday the 21st to ensure adequate lunch and materials count. Special guests for our meeting on Feb 24th will be Olivia (age 11) and her brother Carter (age 13) who are the founders of a nonprofit organization called One More Generation (OMG). The two local kids started OMG back in 2009 in an effort to help raise awareness about the plight of endangered species and to teach kids and communities how to fight such environmental issues as plastic pollution. Olivia and Carter will share their work with us all and try to help us find ways they can bring their community educational outreach programs to more families, schools and other community organization in our area. Len Gough- General Partner at ProMaker Development Group, will share information and insights about the thousands of jobs that are being created in the south metro Atlanta area as a result of Pinewood Atlanta Studios coming to Fayette County. Program: FACTOR Annual Legislative Luncheon
State and local elected officials are invited to meet with Collaborative members for discussions on topics of concern in our county. Domestic Violence is on the rise; critical needs continue to keep our food pantries and assistance programs busy and underage drinking is hot topic as well. We will also hear from our legislators as to the expected issues they will be discussion when General Assembly convenes in January.
Workforce Investment ActIf you work with or are associated with adults that have been a casualty of our slow to recover job market- this program is for you!
If you work with or are associated with youth that meet the following qualifying conditions: low income (family), between 14 &21, (youth) receiving TANF or in foster care system- this program is for you! Workforce Investment Act (WIA) offers a comprehensive range of services consisting of workforce development activities to assist the job seeker- adults, dislocated workers and youth. Dorothy Herzberg will share information about existing comprehensive services for adults and dislocated workers, including the opportunity to have job training/occupational skills training paid. Dawn Oparah will share information for a WIA Youth Program that will provide education, training, and employment opportunities for low-income youth. Three groups from local schools; Fayette County High, Whitewater and Lovejoy High Schools created powerful videos (35-40 seconds) designed to share the message that underage drinking can have severe consequences.
