The ENCORE! Fayette initiative began as a means of tapping into a tremendously underused resource in our community - our seniors. Over 15,000 seniors, 65 and older, make their home in Fayette County and that number is expected to grow to over 45,000 by 2030. Our community needs the talents and experience these adults have to offer. So the ENCORE! program was created to create opportunities for these active seniors to learn about their home county.
ENCORE! Fayette is a collaborative effort of Fayette county agencies and organizations that either work with seniors or utilize seniors as volunteers. ENCORE (which stands for Retired Leaders Enriching and Nurturing the Community by Offering Resources and Experiences), is an 8 week program with sessions held one day each week. The program is designed to provide active, community-minded older adults an opportunity to learn more about their community. They learn the important issues and challenges facing Fayette County; identify the primary needs in the region, and ultimately decide how they can make a difference by helping to shape Fayette’s future.
ENCORE introduces participants to all sectors of the community, allowing them to meet leaders and learn about service opportunities throughout Fayette County. It's the fastest - and most fun - way to learn about the many areas of service available for volunteers.
